With over 2 decades behind the decks, Susan Morabito remains one of the most passionate DJ's out there today. Beginning her career in Cleveland, she would later move to NYC where she has spun at such well-known clubs as Twilo, Roxy and SBNY. She has also become quite a staple at the yearly Philadelphia event, Blue Ball which supports the Sapphire Fund. Her Sunday night party has become legendary and is always the talk of the weekend. I was very pleased with this CD as it sidestepped the normal circuit party anthems and instead showcased very sexy and soulful pieces of music. From the likes of Layo & Bushwacka!, John Ciafone and ATFC, the musical selections display sophistication and years of experience. My only complaint with the CD is that at some point it had to stop. This is an excellent addition to anyone's collection.

This edition of the annual Pride series features the return of NYC DJ Julian Marsh (CD 1) and the debut of Provincetown, Massachusetts DJ Wendy Hunt (CD 2), the first female DJ to mix a Centaur release. Together, Marsh and Hunt strike a perfect balance of contemporary and classic dance selections. Armed with top-tier trance and HiNRG pieces, Marsh crafts a moving 10-song set beginning with the world premiere of Francesca's energetic "Been To The Mountain" (Warren Rigg Club Mix). Other highlights include the Original 12" Mix of Mirror Ball's "Burnin'," a trance remake of "Oh L'Amour" (12-Minute Majimix) by Spellbound f/ Deeje, and the trance-infused "Feel Your Soul" by MarQus. I also enjoyed Marsh's inclusion of the Definitive Mix of Jackie Rawe's "I Believe In Dreams," a favorite of mine. Hunt, on the other hand, celebrates dance music's deep historical roots. With classic original cuts and several contemporary hits that either remake or sample the classics, she presents a 10-song set of familiar sounds. Highlights include the Definitive Mix of "I Got This Feeling" by Baby Bumps which features the riff from Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," the Millenium Mix of Martha Wash's "It's Raining Men," the extended mix of Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love," and Sylvester's "Can't Stop Dancing." Also included are the Definitive Mix of "I Am What I Am" by dance diva Hanna Jones and, as the finale, the Red City Vocal Mix of Dr. Alban's "Sing Hallelujah." In all, this is a substantive and formidable release.

Just out from Centaur is Pride, a two disc set from DJ’s Julian Marsh (disc one) and Provincetown’s Wendy Hunt (disc two). To answer the question of why two separate DJs would compile a double album rather than releasing individual discs is simple— they both carry the passion for a similar taste of music style and theme. Pride is filled with 20 unique tracks that work equally well under the remixing control of DJ Julian Marsh and DJ Wendy Hunt, and everyone of the songs they mix has lyrics that submit an idea of communal openness and, well, pride. Whether you’re a man or a woman, hetero or homosexual, one-armed or two, the collection of innovative tunes emits a warm feeling fuzzy that slams you with a dancing bout of confidence. Disc 1: Continuous Mix by Julian Marsh: The talents of Marsh, a Billboard Magazine dance chart reporter and music producer, are beautifully introduced with "Been To The Mountain," a song filled with echoes of soft electronic beats blended behind a soulful chorus of true vocal divas. While all the tracks flow with ease and comfort from one to the next, "Feel The Need" is the second song to showcase Marsh’s genuine knowledge of choosing the correct music for "Pride" and mixing it without drowning out the sweet sounds of Weird Science. The message is concise and clear throughout this disc and is also included in brought bold letters on the inner side of the album sleeve— I Am... Just as I am supposed to be! Although you may consider these ideas, lyrics, and overall feel of Marsh’s work to be trite and utopian in thought, he does transmit a powerful energy throughout his pumping dance tunes alongside such artists as The Dream Girls and MarQus. Disc 2: Continuous Mix by DJ Wendy Hunt: The final of the two CDs is laced with a true aura of pride as it rotates quickly in your disc player, and with Hunt’s profile picture framed with the words Out, Strong, Tolerant, Gay, Lesbian, and Happy, you can’t help but smile with an altruistic glow on your face. While Hunt seems to have a more inspirational spin on her side of the album, whereas Marsh had a more individualistic self-empowerment session in his, she nevertheless delivers an exciting series of danceable beats. In addition to Sylvester’s "Can’t Stop Dancing," a song that resembles the soundtrack of a ‘70s spy show meets light disco, there’s an equally incomparable track by Aretha Franklin. "Freeway of Love" takes the soul-queen’s voice and funks it up with a cleverly played saxophone, it then picks up with quicker paced beats and ends in a crescendo of Aretha and a series of hollers. All in all, Pride pumps the self-confidence up to a sizeable measure and helps you prepare for all of life’s challenges... well, at least for a few hours. But if you need a higher dosage, simply hit the replay button until you’ve reached your maximum capacity— I’ve yet to find mine.

Hunt and Marsh each have a CD in the set in which they have put together a continuous mix of hot dance music. Hunt known for her use of updated numbers from the ‘70s and ‘80s, features the music of Hannah Jones, Baby Bumps, Obsession, The Kinky Boys, Martha Wash, Sylvester, Aretha Franklin, The Heartists and Dr. Alban. The cuts move seamlessly together and there’s no reason to stop dancing until the CD ends.

Disc one features a continuous mix by Marsh that raises spirits to the joyful level his fans have come to expect. Francesca’s "Been To The Mountain" starts off with a jolt that puts a smile on your face, and by the time you get to the Dream Girls’ "I Can Fly", you’ll feel like you could. The energy reaches it’s full flow on Mirror Ball’s "Burnin", you’ll want to tear off your rainbow-striped shirt and wave your flag. Hunt’s remix of "I Am What I Am" (by Respect featuring Hannah Jones) is fierce, as is Dr. Alban’s jump-to-your-feet "Sing Allelujah".
